- Personal Do's & Don'ts for social media
When it comes to social media, anything technically goes with posting and just sharing information about yourself online. It's nice to expression your interest and hobbies online and find people who have similar interest as you and connect from there. However, it is important that you do not post any information of yourself that any one can use to potentially harm you. It is important for users of social media to know the Do's and Don'ts of what to post, or even comment.
For example, There are many Do's for social media that won't harm others. It's always encouraged to post about your interest or hobbies as long what you are posting follows the guidelines of the social platform you are using. As for Don'ts, you should never post or comment something as hate speech, talk down to people, or even posting your exact address/location as that type of information can be used to target you.
The Do's and Don'ts I have learned over the years for social media were through experience of the many times I have used it. At the start when I first created an account for Instagram, I basically posted whatever came into my head and didn't considered what I was posting; But quickly I realized the way I used social media wasn't exactly correct, and if I were trying to make a following on my profile, I had change my ways and know what to do and not to do with my social media account. For one, I made sure I don't just post whenever I felt like it, I made sure that for my photography account on Instagram, I would post once a week, along with my story letting people know about my knew post as well. I also have highlights of some of my work as well that people can see if they have seen all my other post. If I can go back to the first time I ever used social media, I would have changed my habits on how much I posted, and the contents I posted as well. I wish I would have known the how algorithms work as well back then.
Besides proper etiquette, I believe social media is a powerful tool that is available for anyone, and using it for self-expression and meeting others is great. It is important that you don't ever compare yourself to others in any way shape or form, that is a very toxic mindset to yourself so its important you don't pick up on that. As someone who is guilty of doing that, it will not help, it will only hold you back from the goals you are trying to achieve; And always please to make sure not to be obsessive about your online self, make sure to take breaks if needed and comeback fresh! Social media can make you very mental tired so be careful.
Overall, it is important to be careful on what you post for social media, and never compare yourself and your results to others. Thank you for reading!
